FAQ

What is the Lemon Tree Collective?

The Lemon Tree Collective is an organization founded by Helen Fares in early 2024 to evacuate sick children and adults from Gaza.

After doing multiple successful evacuations of families who are now living outside of Gaza and were provided adequate medical treatment, we are now working on three projects in Gaza, Egypt and Syria.

The main project is based in Gaza, where the Lemon Tree Collective is currently providing food aid to 103 families affected by poverty and hunger, and regularly organizing access to clean drinking water in refugee camps. Due to the illegal and inhumane blockade, which has led to severe shortages of food and water, the monthly costs for this work exceed $60,000.

In Egypt, the Collective is providing 30 displaced families from Gaza with safe housing and emergency medical aid.

In Syria, 50 families who have lost their livelihoods due to war are being supported with emergency relief packages.

How do the donations reach Gaza?

Our local staff in Gaza have bank accounts in Palestine, to which we regularly transfer the donations. Since most merchants in Gaza only accept cash, the money must then be withdrawn at currency exchange offices, which charge very high commissions of 30-45%. Unfortunately, there is almost never an alternative to this, unless a merchant agrees to accept bank transfers, but even then, very high commissions are usually charged.

Are you able to get food supplies to Gaza?

Due to the blockades, we are currently unable to import new food into Gaza and consequently cannot influence food prices.

However, we are providing as many people as possible who are threatened with starvation by the Israeli occupying forces with food and water that we purchase locally in Gaza. However, these food supplies are extremely limited due to the blockade imposed by the Zionist occupying forces, making them incredibly expensive and unaffordable for the majority of society.

Can you issue donation receipts?

Yes, we can issue donation receipts through our non-profit partner organisation deepsolidarity.
